I was introduced to glass by Preston Singletary when he curated me into a show called “Fusing Traditions” where he referred to me as the “original Indian glass worker because I use glass beads.
Our collaboration was fostered by the Pilchuck Glass School where we taught a class together. The next year I attended two Pilchuck residencies for casting and fusing. Later, Preston and I did a residency at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Together, Preston and I have created over 40 blown glass works inspired by the material culture of my ancestors, the mound builders of the Mississippi valley. My work with Preston marks the only time I’ve artistically embraced my tribal history and prehistory.
Currently, Preston and I are selling and shipping the remainder of our pieces to the Museum of the SouthEast Indian in Pembroke at the University of North Carolina.
