Buffalo Man emerged as a model and Performance Art character in the 90’s during numerous fashion shows I did with Wendy Ponca and the IAIA-sponsored “Native Fusion”. Like my first performance incarnation, Technoshaman, Buffalo Man was created to fill the time it took for our models to change into their next outfits in the fashion shows.

     I find it difficult to write about the Buffalo Man in the first person as if he were me. He was never me. I was always him. He wasn’t created by me. It’s more accurate to say I was made for him. I eventually came to realize that not only was he separate from me, but that he had his own agenda, attitude and goals. I also reluctantly came to realize Buffalo Man was a better person than me. I was just the form he needed to inhabit. I still couldn’t help becoming a better person because of my experience with Buffalo Man.
